Consular legalisation

Notarisation is a formal process where a Notary Public certifies documents to be legitimate and authentic. The Notary Public verifies the identity of the signatories, ensures their willingness to sign, and confirms that they understand the contents of the document. Once notarised, the document gains credibility and can be used internationally. Certain countries may require notarisation for documents to be considered valid. It is important to consult a Notary Public for accurate guidance on the specific requirements for notarisation.

Often called the ‘Apostille’, this process involves the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office authenticating the signature and seal of a Notary Public.  As well as notarisation, we can organise the legalisation of documents, and also provide the option of an ‘express’ service which provides our clients with a faster turnaround, for those occasions when transactions need to be completed as soon as possible.

Consular legalisation is the process by which a document is certified as genuine by the consul of the country in which it is to be used. This procedure ensures that the document is legally recognised and accepted in the foreign country. Consular legalisation may be required for various documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, academic qualifications, and commercial documents. It is important to follow the specific legalisation requirements of the country for which the document is intended to avoid any delays or rejections in the future, a service which we offer to all of our clients who require it.

We can also visit you at your office or at your home if more convenient, and offer out of hours appointments if required.

“I .. do swear that I will faithfully exercise the office of a public notary; I will faithfully make contracts or instruments for or between any party or parties requiring the same, and I will not add or diminish any thing without the knowledge and consent of such party or parties that may alter the substance of the fact; I will not make or attest any act, contract, or instrument in which I shall know there is violence or fraud; and in all things I will act uprightly and justly in the business of a public notary, according to the best of my skill and ability.”

– Oath of a Notary prescribed by section 7 of the Public Notaries Act 1843
